There's such an overabundance of resources offering specific courses of action for improvement, people most often become lost in the options! Instead of giving people directions, we thought the most helpful thing to do would be to offer some suggestions that we know work. Mostly because, THEY'VE WORKED WELL FOR US IN THE PAST. So, we thought we'd get to talking with our Real Jungle Human in-residence, Claudia about it...
"First and foremost, education is KEY in living a long and healthy life. Never, never, never retire your role as student. There is ALWAYS more to learn, and quite often, more to discover even when you thought you had something figured out. Over time I’ve learned this the easy and the hard way, so I thought we’d have a little chat, just to refresh:
Thinking Only Short Term Only Sets You Back:
Short-term goals and diets are very rarely the end-all. Focus on long-term goal setting and wellness for longevity. These are much more maintainable and reachable, and you won’t go through so many cycles of trial and error.
Find What Moves You:
Find movement that you love and run with it. If it isn’t fully functional (lacks certain ranges of motion you need or focuses only on one aspect of health related fitness) you definitely want to look into ways to supplement that activity. If you’re like me, and powerlifting, Crossfit, or something similarly taxing on the body, utilize a discipline like yoga or Tai chi to preserve your joints and muscles that might be under or overused!
Functional movement physical therapists and functional medicine/nutritional therapists are on the rise and for VERY good reason. Quit your antibiotics or foam rolling if they show no results, and receive the proper education and help needed to form the body-mind connection! Conscious understanding of our bodies functions can truly benefit our health!
Surround yourself with people who are positive and like-minded. Join gyms, groups, or even online challenges that allow you to be both social and goal oriented. Have fun to sustain health and wellness on an even larger scale than individual ambitions.
UTILIZE THE INTERNET:
All of your resources are here. There are so many books, blogs, podcasts, videos, AND MORE that can provide you with truly life changing information regarding our health and wellness. NTP’s, functional PT’s, paleo/vegan bloggers, and owners of health related businesses run many programs that suit our many fitness, wellness and nutrition needs- but these are not conventional and so they are NOT advertised through our TV’s and media outlets. Enter the online world of SUSTAINABLE HEALTH AND WELLNESS."
